Think farmers’ markets are only for spring and summer? Think again! The Davis Farmers’ Market is a year-round affair, showcasing the best of the seasonal bounty every month of the year. Plus 2026 is their 50th anniversary!

Held in Central Park Saturdays from 8 a.m.–1 p.m., the market is open every week, rain or shine, thanks to a community-funded pavilion. It is one of the longest-running farmers’ markets in the state, having started in 1976 with just three farmers offering produce from boxes on the ground. Today, nearly 100 vendors set up shop at the market each week, selling not only fruit and vegetables but also eggs, meats, seafood, olive oil, nuts, wine, honey, and prepared foods. There are also dozens of local artisans offering their handiworks.

There’s always something different at the Davis Farmers’ Market. After all, they only sell seasonal produce, so the offerings change regularly. Following is a guide:

  • Winter

In winter, look for citrus like mandarins, oranges, and grapefruit. Winter greens are also in abundance, such as kale and chard. Broccoli, cauliflower and other hearty veggies are also plentiful, as are root vegetables like carrots and beets.

  • Spring

As the weather warms, the first of the spring produce begins to appear. As early as March, you’ll find spring veggies like asparagus and peas. Toward the end of the season, strawberries start to appear.

  • Summer

Summer brings with it an entirely new crop of produce. Stone fruit like peaches, plums, and cherries are at their ripest. Tomatoes in all varieties begin to sweeten. In the veggie department, stock up on corn, summer squash, and peppers.

  • Fall

Just because the weather begins to cool doesn’t mean things slow down at the Davis Farmers’ Market. Rather, fall staples like squash, pumpkins, and root vegetables become available. Fruits such as apples, pears, grapes and pomegranates are all at their peak.

Much More Than a Farmers’ Market

Although the Davis Farmers’ Market is THE place to shop for healthy, locally produced foods, it has also established itself as a community gathering spot. Locals and visitors alike come to the market not only to shop, but also to say hello to neighbors and friends and to enjoy time with family.

The Davis Farmers’ Market is also a leader in spreading the farm-to-table movement through education. The market partners with local schools to create and sustain school gardens and ensure fresh, local food is the standard on school lunch menus.

The Davis Farmers’ Market extends far beyond Saturday morning. In winter, October through April, it’s also held on Wednesdays from 3–6 p.m. May through September, Wednesday evenings bring Picnic in the Park from 4–8 p.m., a market with live music, children’s entertainment, wine and beer, and food vendors. Attendees bring picnic blankets, spread out on the grass, and enjoy the evening.

Other Davis Farmers’ Market Locations

The Davis Farmers’ Market is so popular that it has extended to other locations! Satellite markets are held at the following locations within Yolo County:

  • UC Davis Student Community Center: Wednesdays, 10 a.m.–1:30 p.m. during fall and spring quarters.
  • Sutter Davis Hospital: Thursdays, 10 a.m.–1 p.m. May through September.

Davis Farmers’ Market Tips

  • Go early for the prime picks or go late if you’re looking for a deal — some vendors mark down their products toward closing time.
  • Bring small bills. Although many vendors accept credit cards, they are charged a fee, so cash is usually preferred.
  • Bring a bag. Most vendors offer bags, but to reduce your impact, bring a reusable bag or basket.
  • Don’t haggle. Farmers operate on a slim profit margin. Support their efforts by paying the full asking price.
  • Ask for samples. Farmers are proud of what they do, and most are happy to provide samples, but be sure to ask first.
  • Shop seasonally. Unlike grocery stores, farmers’ markets don’t import produce from the other side of the globe. Not everything you’re looking for will be available year-round.
